Thanks to a partnership between Longmont Power & Communications and Thistle Community Housing, 32 lower-income residents of the English Village Apartments now have newly installed Smart Thermostats. Longmont Power & Communications, the City of Longmont’s Electric Utility, provided over $6,000 for the project, covering the cost of the new thermostats and their installation. The new thermostats will provide savings for residents on their electric utility bills and increase the overall energy efficiency of the building, creating wins for tenants, the environment, for Thistle, and for Longmont.
Adam Sanderson, the City of Longmont’s Energy Program Manager, explains how the thermostats help residents save money and energy - “Residents can program these thermostats with a schedule, "teaching" them their preferred temperatures. The thermostat then adjusts heating and cooling to keep the home comfortable and save energy. Features like weather data and optional smartphone controls also help reduce energy use.”
Earlier this year, Longmont Power & Communications and Thistle Community Housing also partnered on a project to fund new PTAC units to 48 low-income residents at Kimbark Apartments. The new PTAC units provide heating and cooling for residents at a lower cost, and a lower impact on the environment than gas systems.
Thistle Community Housing is beyond thrilled by the City’s financial support for our lower -income communities, our Thistle Family of Housing, helping them reduce household financial burdens, and to make headway towards a greener future.
